During 2023-24 tax revenue generated in Scotland, including North Sea oil revenues, amounted to £88.5 billion (8.1% of UK total).  During the same period, Scotland benefited from about £111.2 billion in public spending (9.1% of UK total).  These were both more than Scotland’s 8.1% population share of the UK.

Housing Statistics for Scotland Quarterly Update: New Housebuilding and Affordable Housing Supply to end June 2024

In March 2025, the Scottish Government also released housebuilding statistics which made for sobering reading. New build housing starts and completions across all tenures fell by 17% overall year on year with affordable housing starts reducing by 5% and affordable housing completions reducing by a staggering 25%. Social sector completions (5,053) in the year to the end of June 2024 were down 25% (-1,649
homes) from the previous year. There were 3,501 starts in the social sector down 5% (-199
homes) from the year before. Completions were the lowest since the year to end of June 2018
(excluding 2020 where Covid-19 impacted housebuilding) and starts the lowest since the year to

According to a report from the Scottish Government and other sources, as of June 2023, there were 5,323 individuals in receipt of support from local authorities in Scotland while awaiting the outcome of their asylum applications. The report confirms that the majority, 4,520 individuals (approximately 85%), were located in Glasgow City. The remaining distribution across other local authorities, such as Aberdeen City, Perth and Kinross, Renfrewshire, and others, is not detailed with exact percentages in the June 2023 data.
