The claim that “there is no evidence that predatory and abusive men have ever had to pretend to be anything else to carry out abusive and predatory behaviour,” as stated by Shona Robinson, and as stated by some policymakers, is demonstrably false. The Women’s Forum Australia report, “Taken on Notice and Response,” alongside additional research and recent cases, documents numerous instances where trans-identified males have committed violent assaults, dangerous crimes, and sexual crimes, often exploiting self-identification policies to access vulnerable spaces.

The Myth of "No Evidence": Trans-Identified Individuals and Violent Crimes

This article examines the evidence as of 11th May 2025-

Studies on Transwomen Offending Rates

Research consistently shows that transwomen (biological males identifying as women) exhibit male patterns of criminality. A 2011 peer-reviewed study, “Long-Term Follow-Up of Transsexual Persons Undergoing Sex Reassignment Surgery: Cohort Study in Sweden,” found that transwomen (male-to-female) exhibited a significantly increased risk for crime compared to female controls (aHR 6.6; 95% CI 4.1-10.8), but not compared to males (aHR 0.8; 95% CI 0.5-1.2). This indicates that transwomen retain a male pattern of criminality, including violent crime. The study, sent to Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman in 2022 and 2023, underscores that self-identification laws may obscure accurate crime data by recording male crimes as female.

Another study, “Examination of Gender Diverse Offenders,” revealed that 62% of gender-diverse offenders were transwomen, with 40% serving second or subsequent sentences. A staggering 86% were convicted of violent offences, and 60% were deemed high-risk with low reintegration potential. Additionally, “Gender Diverse Offenders with a History of Sexual Offending” found that 82% of such offenders were transwomen, with 46% serving indeterminate sentences, underscoring their significant risk profile.

More than 70 per cent of transgender prisoners in British jails are serving sentences for sex offences and violent crimes, government figures have revealed. At least 181 of the 244 transgender inmates, more than 74 per cent, are in jail for crimes including rape, forcing under-age children into having sex, grievous bodily harm and robbery. A 2020 analysis by Fair Play For Women, based on UK Ministry of Justice data, found that 50% of male prisoners identifying as transgender in 2019 were convicted of sexual offenses, compared to 17% of all male prisoners and just 3% of female prisoners. This suggests transwomen exhibit a high propensity for sexual crimes, akin to male patterns, and in a higher percentage bracket, they are the most represented group when it comes to per capita sexual offences.

Violent and Sexual Crimes by Trans-Identified Males

(This is just a small snapshot) See references for more detailed lists

The Women’s Forum Australia report lists numerous cases of trans-identified males committing violent and sexual crimes, often exploiting self-ID policies to access women’s spaces:

  • David / Davina Ayrton, a violent male who identifies as a trans woman, was jailed for 8 years in March 2016 for the rape of a 15 year old girl in Portsmouth between October and November 2004. Ayrton was also placed on the sex offenders register for life. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-35726292
  • Wall of Shame Six transgender-identifying inmates filed a class action lawsuit against Illinois prisons (clockwise from top left): Janiah Monroe (né Andre Patterson) see above
  • Sora (né Jordan) Kuykendall, a registered sex offender, stabbed to death his ex-girlfriend, a teen still in high school;
  • Lydia Helena Vision (né Eric D. Padilla), registered sex offender most recently convicted of the racially-motivated attempted murder of a black man;
  • Marilyn (né Diego) Melendez, convicted killer;
  • Ebony (né Gregory) Stamps, attempted murderer and domestic abuser; and
  • Sasha (né Farrell) Reed, a registered sex offender convicted of aggravated criminal sexual assault.
  • Strawberry (né Deon) Hampton, a burglar who filed a separate lawsuit, completed the final months of his sentence in a women’s prison and now helps other men get transfers to women’s prison;
  • Kanautica Zayre-Brown (né Kevin Chestnut), career felon, filed a parallel lawsuit against North Carolina prisons. All except Reed and Stamps were moved to women’s prisons. • Christopher Worton/Zoe Lynes, a violent male who identifies as a trans woman, was convicted in 2014 of five counts of rape against a (female) child aged between 13 and 15. Worton/Lynes, 22, received a custodial sentence in a Young Offenders’ Institute and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO).
  • Maddison Wilson, a male who identifies as a transgender woman, was charged in February 2025 with multiple sex offences against children. Despite court documents alleging Wilson attacked a girl “with your penis”, Wilson did not enter any pleas but confirmed preferred pronouns of “she/her” in the dock. The BBC reports that the charges against Wilson were formally discontinued after Southampton Crown Court was informed of the defendant’s death. The provisional cause of death, on 14 February, was hanging. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5y920n0zj4o
  • Zion Teasley (USA, 2023): A trans-identified male fatally stabbed Lauren Heike 15 times on an Arizona hiking trail, reportedly motivated by jealousy of her appearance. Teasley used “they/them” and “she/her” pronouns. https://x.com/libsoftiktok/status/1918020647919276416
  • Kyle Lockwood/ Kayleigh-Louise Woods, a violent male who identifies as a trans woman, was jailed for life at Warwick Crown Court in 2017 for the torture and brutal murder of 20-year old flatmate Bethany Hill. Woods, 23, and accomplice Jack Williams were told they would be imprisoned for at least 26 years. https://transcrimeuk.com/2017/10/31/kayleigh-louise-woods/

These cases, spanning the UK, Australia, the USA, New Zealand, Ireland, and beyond, demonstrate a pattern of trans-identified males committing serious crimes, often in spaces meant to be safe for women.

The Trans Prison Paradox

The report highlights a critical dilemma: either trans-identified individuals represent a disproportionately dangerous minority, or violent criminals are exploiting gender self-identification as a loophole. A study in the British Journal of Criminology noted that some trans prisoners “switch gender again” after being freed from women’s units, raising concerns about the risks posed by self-identification policies. In Scotland, a former prisoner accused authorities of “serving up women to predators” by forcing female inmates to share shower blocks with violent trans inmates.

A 2023 article from the International Journal of Law, Crime and Justice highlighted that transwomen in U.S. prisons are frequently placed in male facilities due to their biological sex, yet when placed in female facilities, they face or perpetrate violence at higher rates. This underscores the need for policies based on biological sex to protect all inmates.

A 2007 study by Jenness et al. reported that sexual assault is 13 times more prevalent among transgender inmates, with 59% of transwomen in a Californian prison reporting sexual assault, often perpetrated against female inmates. These cases illustrate how self-ID policies can enable access to vulnerable spaces, increasing risks to women

Impact on Women in Prisons

The presence of trans-identified males in women’s prisons has led to significant harm. Female prisoners have reported trauma from sharing spaces with male-bodied offenders, as seen in the case of Lisa Jones, where a petition to remove him from a women’s prison was ignored. In the USA, cases like Andre Patterson (aka Janiah Monroe) and Michael Cole involve allegations of rape and sexual assault against female inmates in women’s prisons, highlighting the risks of current policies.

Broader Implications and Policy Concerns

The report argues that self-identification policies in the criminal justice system, as noted in “Transgenderism and Policy Capture in the Criminal Justice System,” prioritise gender identity over biological sex, often without public scrutiny. This misalignment with legal standards endangers women, particularly in custodial settings. The section “Why Case-by-Case Risk Assessment Is Not the Solution” further contends that risk assessments designed for sexual reoffending are inadequate for safeguarding women in prisons, calling for more robust protections.

Conclusion

Contrary to Shona Robinson’s claim, there is substantial evidence that trans-identified males have committed assaults and dangerous crimes, often exploiting self-identification policies to access vulnerable spaces like women’s prisons. The documented cases and studies reveal a troubling pattern that cannot be ignored. Policymakers must prioritise the safety of women and girls by re-evaluating self-ID laws and ensuring that biological sex is considered in custodial and other sensitive settings. Especially in the UK following the recent Supreme Court ruling, that sex refers to biological sex and is protected as a specific group.
